Goals 2018 Edition

31 Jan

What did you do?

Those 4 words drive me to have the best answers.  This is where I put my ambitious goals and plans to achieve them out there to the universe (and the internet) but I am looking at a stack of journals and I see evidence I have been practicing this all my life.  If I can dream it, write it down, I can and most often make it happen.

It seems having goals and being successful seems to have fallen out of fashion in 2018.  While I appreciate fashion, I prefer to influence it rather than follow it.  Part of me wants to keep my goals private but the stronger part wants to share the struggle and the success because that is one of the positive aspects to this digitally social world.

It is also challenging because in many ways this all feels like a dream and in so many ways I am starting over.  Looking at last year (or last two years as it turned out) I wonder if I should set these goals for 12 months or 24?  I am pretty sure I time traveled back to my younger self and said the future is crazy!  The Cubs won the world series (2016)!  Remember that joke about Ronald Reagan being President of the U.S. in the movie “Back to the Future”?  Well now Donald Trump is President but now it’s called POTUS.  Remember how you wanted to know what that black monolith was from 2001 A Space Odyssey?  It is a smartphone or tablet.

What will I do?

Stay Healthy!  This is a big complicated one that sounds deceptively simple.  The biggest lesson I have learned over the years is we already have everything we need in mind, body and spirit.  However it seems everything is designed to distract us from that simple truth.  In recent years I have been fortunate enough to experience health in all three in varying degrees.  It is amazing and there is no substitute.  The mind has all the answers, emotions, drive, endurance, focus and fantasy if you keep it healthy and treat it right.  If you destroy it with drugs (of any sort), deceptive distractions, poisonous philosophies or just take it for granted it will not serve you as well as if you work it, feed it and test it.  As we get older it is even more challenging to take care of our minds and our bodies.  While I feel in good shape it must be a priority to maintain and improve.  I am proud of my accomplishments in fitness but also know from past years if I do not keep it a priority it is very easy to slip out of and much harder to get back to where I was previously.  It makes it even more challenging to improve.  Riding horses (correctly) turns out is an excellent workout, especially for my core so I intend to focus much more on that as well as participating in races and maybe exploring the Triathlon and IronMan world more.  The spirit is certainly the most private yet I will share the ways it ties to mind and body.  The euphoria I experienced crossing the finish line or cantering on a horse the first time was certainly a spiritual as well as physical experience.  Finally learning to measure adequate amounts of rest to match my ambition has been a major breakthrough for the trifecta of mind, body and spirit.

Continue the Creative!

Samedited2018

Although my creative talents have been utilized in development in the past few years, my creative juices have still been flowing and I look forward to get back to the mission “Seeking, Retaining and Cultivating Audiences and Talent to Enhance the Cultural Community”.  Specifically looking for new ways to use new technologies to maximize audiences and performances.  I hope to get back to writing, performing and producing starting with bringing the Comedy Killers Murder Mysteries back and not only getting the “band back together” but building a core ensemble for the next generation in a brave new world.

Horse Around!

Horses have become so much a part of my life yet I still feel as if I am just getting started.  It is my intention to always learn something new and no matter how much time I get in the saddle every day feels brand new.  I am beginning Dressage which I consider an intense level of performing arts, but it’s officially a “Sport”.  It is my intention to go to some shows and work my way through the ranks while continuing training and riding.  I also plan to go to Germany to get an overview of horsemanship in Dressage, Jumping and Cross Country.  I intend to get as much training and experience as possible in the coming months.  I am also very fortunate to have found a beautiful mare (with the help of my trainer at Rocking M Stables and Nikki Littrell at Starstruck Eventing) named “Artful Design” a.k.a. “Capri” (short for Capricorn, not skinny cigarettes or short pants).  She is a great partner and I think we are a good match.  My goal is to go as far with her as we can.

Build your Business!

In my leadership roles in the incredible organizations I serve I have consistently assembled and served a dream team generating growth and opportunities.  From my days working in higher education to Better Business Bureaus, BOLD and now all my creative non-profit experience comes together with my aggressive drive for development.  The Bold contact center, now an affiliate of the Dallas Lighthouse For the Blind typically doubles in size year over year.  To do this again in 2018 is a challenge I willingly accept.  There are alot of moving parts  and infinite opportunities.  The more we build your business, the more we all win.

Happy New Year 2018 - Cover Photos For Facebook5Specifically I have made 3 sets of goals for each category.  Maintenance goals to stay on track based on my current progress.  SMART Goals that are focused on improvement and growth and as always ambitious and epic goals.

Seeking A Crew To Boldly Go Where No One Has Gone Before Into the New Frontier

4 Oct

Boldly Going To A New Frontier
Remember when we thought “Space” was the “Final” Frontier?

It was a simpler time when televisions where “wood-colored” and phone’s literally had dials you had to stick your finger into and spin around.  When we wanted information or to learn about something we went to libraries.  The average attention span of a person could handle epic stories and philosophical challenges.  How amazing life is today when you can speak your desires into reality with the help of the latest technology.   Everyone can have a stage, a microphone and a spotlight.  Are you brave enough to join me in pioneering the new frontier(s)?  Are you ready for what is next?

If you are, then I am looking for a crew to join me and a few extremely talented visionaries as we “Boldly Go” to these new frontiers of digital dimensions, augmented realities and beyond.  Do you want to be a part of this current venture?  Do you have what it takes?

  • Have you always felt you had a calling to be part of something better or greater?
  • Are you looking for a culture that values your experience and talents and nurtures your continual growth?
  • Do you want to be acknowledged and rewarded for your contributions and successes faster?
  • Do you thrive on challenge and take pride in personal accountability?
  • Do others consider you a person of integrity and strong moral character?

If you answered “YES” then lets talk as soon as possible.

This is not an open ended opportunity.  The ship is scheduled depart and I need the crew immediately.  I am looking for a few brave people that will take the chance before success assured.  The fewer of us the greater the share of honor, fortune and glory in the event of success.  You can be anywhere with internet access and the spirit to succeed and push the envelope.  It won’t be easy and it won’t be routine but I will tell you what it will be; The opportunity of a lifetime!

The Gates of the Undiscovered Country

4 Jun

Spotfun2

Today I walked my long-time companion to the gates of the undiscovered country and learned more about life in his final moments than a living soul might.  My companion saw me through multiple transformations and been by my side through my highest highs and right there at my lowest lows.  I realized that we lived together longer than I lived with my parents growing up.  He was with me through romances, marriage, adventures, careers as well as depression, heartbreaks, divorce, rejection and near death experiences.Spotmissed10930900_10153055008563250_2947396728175501239_n

…And I him during multiple times when he dodged death with grace and style.  We recollected every one of them and I swear I could not count 9 but we must have missed a few.  He was more than human, more than a friend.  He was my familiar.  He was a cat.

How am I so emotional over a cat?  Well in my expe   rience people can make things complicated.  That is not to say it was unconditional love, as he was very clear there were conditions.  Incredibly protective, sensitive and strong he could also be terrible at times.  I fondly remember our fights and our pissing contests (literally and figuratively).  He made me bleed and was never shy about sharing his opinion of my actions or my friends ever since he was a kitten.  I never thought I would miss those little turds in my shoe when I return home from being away longer than he found acceptable.  I don’t miss the piss.

As we approached the gates, the love and light that surrounded us by all the lives he touched filled the room and that’s when I noticed he was sending me his last light and suddenly everything made sense.  Every struggle, every line of literature and every moment was crystal clear as he passed.

Although it was just the two of us the broken parts of my soul stung with the healing support of the hundreds of people wishing their best and sending their love.  About the same time he came into my life, I was introduced to a philosopher who quickly became one of my spiritual leaders, Thich Nhat Hanh.  There was a message dedicated to us and it was the closest thing I can put into words to what I experienced and I hope if the day ever comes when I go, someone reads this in my memory.

“This body is not me; I am not caught in this body, I am life without boundaries, I have never been born and I have never died. Over there the wide ocean and the sky with many galaxies All manifests from the basis of consciousness. Since beginningless time I have always been free. Birth and death are only a door through which we go in and out. Birth and death are only a game of hide-and-seek. So smile to me and take my hand and wave good-bye. Tomorrow we shall meet again or even before. We shall always be meeting again at the true source, Always meeting again on the myriad paths of life.” ~ Thich Nhat Hanh
